Cause of traffic accidents in Cambodia

People behaviors

• Driving or riding after drinking and over speeding

• Driving or riding without fasting helmet/seatbelt and no mirror

• Turn on very bright front lights at night which can affect other vehicles.

• Taking on phone or listening to loud music when driving or riding vehicles

• Aggressive driving and riding (swaying/overtaking and racing)

• Do not understand traffic signs

• Do not strictly obey the traffic lights/signs

• Driving and riding when being very tired, sleepy and not well,

• Being afraid being robbed (have expensive vehicles especially driving and riding at night and quiet places) so ride and drive very fast.

• Turn without indicating lights, using mirrors and looking at other vehicles

• Overloading (both things and people )

• Failing to check vehicle condition and maintain safety condition regularly.

• Do not make careful signs when vehicles break down in middle of way or when the roads are bumpy or dangerous ahead.

• Use sound of horn to make people pull over but it unexpectedly scares them and then causes an accident.

• Boulevard /avenue/ streets….being under constructions (build draining system, widen boulevard/avenue/streets)

Vehicles conditions

• They are not in good conditions (Ex: breaks, lights, tires and indicator do not work properly)

• Overloaded or locally invented for illegal and unethical utilization to generate more benefits for the owner.
